Post 5: An expert in my field

Hi everyone! In this post I would like to talk about a scientific that I admire so much, and she is Rosalind Franklin.  Rosalind Franklin was a British quemist who was born in 1920 in London. She worked hard to make known the images of DNA and RNA to understand their molecular structures, getting in 1951 a "photografy" of DNA with a clarity that no one had obtained until that date. Unfortunately, she and her scientific job was unnoticed by the scientist of that time because she was a woman, and the sexism was evident. Watson and Crick, other two scientific coallegues of her and also interested in the molecular structures of DNA, saw the images that she obtained of DNA, and they used her work to published a proposal for the structure of DNA in a paper in the Nature science magazine a couple of months after Rosalind took the DNA photografy.  The publication of Watson and Crick led them to win the Nobel Prize of Physiology or Medicine in 1962, absolutely forgetting and leav...

Blog Post 4

Hi everyone! <3 In this post I would talk about my favorite type of food, and that is Thai food. Thai food is literally a mix of flavours, and the perfect balance between spicy, salty and bittersweet in every dish. The traditional Thai food is based on vegetables, meat, chicken and seafood, with rice or noodles and all types of spices like turmeric, pepper, garlic, among others. For the preparation, the protein is seasonad with the spices and vegetables, and can be added soy sauce, sugar for a little sweet taste, penaut, and more. The noodles or rice are prepared separately and then everything is mixed on a bowl, and is ready to serve. I think Thai food is my favorite because the mix of flavours and textures is so interesting an pleasant to me that I would never get bored of eat it. Also, Thai food is very special to me because it remainds me a great memorie with my godmother, when in my 15th birthday she invited me to a sleepover and bought Thai food for dinner. That was the ...

Blog Post 3: My favorite piece of technology

When I hear about the word "technology" it came so many artifacts and devices to my head. But I think my favorite piece of technology is the camera in general, from the instant camera to other more profesionals, and the recording camera too. I think is so magical that with one object you can capture moments of your life and what surrounds you, and from a lens we have the possibility to inmortalize a memorie, a person, the nature around you, basically everything. I haven't be able to buy a proper camera to take pictures in a more professional way, but in my family we have a little digital camera, and in the family trips we take it with us. In actual days, with phones is more easy to record or take pictures of anything around you, but in the future i will love to buy a camera of my own. Without a camera, I think it will be sad to not have a image or video with your precious memories, audiovisual material that can you look every time you get nostalgic, or for fun. A camera b...

Unit: Important Days and Dates

One of my favorite celebrations is Halloween.  Halloween is celebrated all over the world, but specially I love how is celebrated in Mexico on the “Day of the Dead”. This Mexical festival is on the last days of October, and the families come together to remember their lost relatives. The families build altars and decorate it with candles, pumpkins, pictures and sometimes food.  People say that a portal opens, and the spirits of their beloved ones comes to earth. Is a day of remember, but also a day of celebration; there’s music like mariachi bands, singing, storytelling, and the streets decorated.  What I love of Halloween is the chance of wear different costumes and dress however you want, but the tradition in Mexico is wear colorful clothes and paint your face like a skull. I think is really beautiful.

Post 2: Why did I choose my major/career

When I was a child, I don 't remember if I had a dream job. I think I only knew that I wanted to do big things in the future. In highschool, I was more interested in science. I started to do some research, and a major that in the moment I thought that suites with me was Biochemistry. When I did the test to apply to university on 2020, I was disappointed about my score, so I decided to apply to Bachillerato in University of Chile. There I had to do two years of studies and after that I was going to be transfered to a major of my interest. At that time, I was confused if Biochemistry was for me, and in that two years in Bachillerato I found Molecular Biotechnology Engineering, and I loved the carreer and the things I could do in the future. Now I 'm on the third year of Molecular  Biotechnology Engineering, and I still think that was the best decision for me. On the future, I will love to do genetic therapy to solve the current health problems of the population, but also  I '...

Post 1 > Who am I?

Hi everyone! I'm Sofia I'm from Santiago. I was born here and the truth is I've always love the life at the city. I think is because the many things you can do here, and the little places I love.
